I was hooked on Toastmasters after attending a meeting of White Rose Speakers in Leeds in late 2019. I joined the club at the start of 2020 and was toastmaster of the evening for the club’s first ever online meeting when public restrictions were imposed. Outside of work and Toastmasters I enjoy running and gardening.
How have I benefited from my Toastmasters experience?
Like many people, the desire to improve my public speaking was a big draw for me. Public speaking has always been a key part of my day job as a trade union official but I have most enjoyed developing leadership skills and building friendships with club members. I continue to learn about people and building relationships every day.
What most excites me about my District role?
Taking on a District role is a huge challenge. It demands your time and attention if you are to do it right. But it also presents an opportunity to be pushed out of your comfort zone and into trying something new. I’m most excited about challenging myself because just how boring would life be without challenges?
