Steps to Starting a new Club and Chartering

Here is the step-by-step process for starting a Toastmasters club, now with direct links to all required forms and resources inserted at the appropriate steps:

STEP 1: Learn How Toastmasters Works

  • Visit nearby or online clubs: Find a Club
  • Watch the Club Experience Video
  • Contact the New Clubs Team: newclubs@toastmasters.org

STEP 2: Decide the Type of Club

  • Identify your prospective members

  • Membership Benefits Flyer

Community Club: No affiliation; just gather interest from the public.

  • Choose: In-person, online, or hybrid format.
  • Additional Resources: Start A Club Marketing Materials

STEP 3: Request a Club Sponsor

  • Email clubgrowthdirector@d71toastmasters.org to request up to 2 sponsors who can:
  • Help with marketing
  • Assist with demonstration meetings
  • Guide paperwork

STEP 4: Generate Interest

  • Schedule a Demonstration Meeting using this Introductory Meeting Presentation
  • Use promotion tools from Start A Club Marketing
  • Provide potential members with the Charter Membership Application (Form 3)

STEP 5: Charter the Club

Submit these 7 forms and applicable fees to Toastmasters International:

  1. Form 1: Application to Organize a Toastmasters Club
  2. Form 2: Charter Payments Form
  • $125 USD charter fee
  • $25 USD per new member
  • $60 USD semiannual dues per member

  1. Form 3: Charter Membership Application (one per member or you can use the Form 3 spreadsheet to add all people on one sheet)
  2. Form 4: Charter Club Officer Information
  3. Form 5: Club Information
  4. Form 6A: Club Constitution for Clubs of Toastmasters International
  5. Form 6B: Addendum of Standard Club Options

Submit forms via email to: newclubs@toastmasters.org

STEP 6: Celebrate!

  • Once chartered, organise a launch event.

Invite:

  • Employees and executives (for corporate clubs)
  • Community members and leaders (for public clubs)
  • Toastmasters District leaders and mentors
