Toastmasters Interview Tips

The countdown to that decisive interview is only hours away. Success in the interview can open up a vista of advancements for you in your chosen field.

Today strong interviewing skills are more important than ever. For you that journey begins with preparation for three reasons. 1. It helps you relax in body and mind. 2. It instils your confidence. 3. It gets you all the information you require. Preparation for any interview requires time and focused research. Preparation gives you time to reflect on your positive values, interests and main priorities. Preparation affords you important opportunities to reflection on your weaknesses and helps you see how you can turn them to strengths. Most interviews are in person. It is very important when sitting in front of an interview panel to give all of your attention to the interviewer asking the question while embracing the other panel members visually. This action is important as it helps convey and demonstrate personal comfort in the interview room. Some interviews are held online for logistical or other reasons. These interviews may be recorded so before the interview you will be informed of the criteria for safety and security reasons.

In preparation for the interview write out potential questions that may be asked of you. Practice responding and timing your responses. Practice responding to your questions while looking in a mirror or ask some close friends to ask you the questions and give feedback on your responses and sense of comfort. Always prepare for the unexpected question. Remember today increasingly potential employers will have done some background checks on you and your internet usage. Be yourself. Stay calm. Remember the interview panel are human just like you but they have a job to do for your potential employer. If you have a friend that can put a good word in for you that may benefit your case.

Lastly. Preparation for that all important interview is crucial. Dress appropriately. Do not bring your mobile phone into the interview room whether the interview is in person or online for obvious reasons. Bring your resume. AI will not help you as it lacks the human capacity to understand human emotion. Relax. Take nothing for granted. Things happen.
